My makeup

Photobooth poser alert! My face always looks rubbish in outfit posts so I wanted to take a nice one when I had put all my make up and hair extensions in on Friday night before going out.

I've never been into makeup very much. I think the first time I started wearing it was when I was about 12 and would occassionally put on some eyeliner and mascara. When I was about 13 I caught sight of myself in a particularly unflattering mirror and realised how pale I look without makeup. Since then I have never let anyone see me without at least some mascara on. Being fair haired I have such pale eyelashes and non existent eyebrows - I hate it!

I've never been someone who experiments very much with makeup and never usually buy it unless I need it. It just never really interested me very much. That seems to have all changed now though.

After reading blogs for about a year now I have learnt SO much more about makeup and actually really enjoy it now. Last month I plucked up the courage to spend more than £10 on a foundation and wow am I glad I did! I went to a MAC counter and for once in my life I got colour matched and bought Studio Fix Fluid. I have to say I am totally converted to spending a little more on makeup since it makes so much of a difference. I don't know what I was thinking before! After that I went along to a Benefit counter in Boots and bought High Beam and an eyeshadow. I am so so pleased with these new additions to my make up bag, it literally makes me cringe thinking about how I managed before with my crappy un-matched foundation!

I haven't worn eyeshadow in about 6 years, I've always stuck to my liquid eyeliner on the lash line. With the help of a couple of my friends, some youtubing and blog reading I'm learning to experiment with different colours. All my money is going towards makeup now!

This is my makeup bag and contents at the moment:

Top Left to Right:

Oil of Olay Beauty Fluid | I am so addicted to this! It smells so good, and makes my skin feel so soft, I put it on at night and in the morning.

Rimmel Bronzer in 'Sun Bronze' - I have had this forever, I think it came free with a mascara I bought. I don't particularly like it. I'd like a bronzer with more of a shimmer in it so I'm looking to buy another one asap!

No7 Berry Colour Kit | I've had this for ages but just started using it again for the browny eyeshadows.

Make up Bag | I was given this last Christmas and I love it. I'm not sure where it was from but it says 'Disaster Designs' on it.

Liz Colinge 'Neutral' Palette | Another one I've had for ages, rediscovered the nice colours inside!

Works Blusher Duo | I was given this as part of one of those massive make up kits that are full of crap makeup. I needed a blusher recently and found this one in my room (after watching a 'how to contour' video!) I actually really like the colour of this blush. I want to buy one in a similar colour but maybe a cream one or one with gold undertones. Wondering whether to buy a benefit one...

L'Oreal Volume Million Lashes in Extra Black | One thing I do know about in makeup is mascaras. Since I was 14 I've been looking for bigger, blacker lashes and out of all the mascaras I've tried I've never wanted to buy the same one again. That was until I found this one! I am so so pleased with this mascara. It literally makes my lashes so much bigger and volumised. I love it. I don't think I'll ever buy a different mascara again! I think it's normally about £12 but Boots was doing a deal the other week of 2 for £15. I don't know how that works but I bought about 4 of them to take advantage! I would definitely recommend this mascara.

Fearne Cotton's Dusk Dust Body Shimmer |  This was in the post Christmas sales in Boots, I think it was reduced from £8 to £4 or something like that. It does get everywhere but it really is very nice. It's so golden and shimmery so I often use it on top of my blusher on a night out. The gift box it comes in is really nice too, about 10x as big as the little pot so I keep bracelets in it now. Hopefully I'll be able to buy it again in the sales next Christmas!

No7 Colour Calming Primer | When I bought this I definitely wasn't expecting it to be the same colour as the tube! I use this very sparingly but I don't think I'll buy it again. Next time I think I'll try the radiant one, I think I misjudged my need for colour calming! (I don't need any colour calming is what I mean).

Benefit Eyeshadow in 'Like what you Sea?' | My friend recommended the Benefit eyeshadows so I thought I'd try one being a new eyeshadow convert! This colour is so nice, it's all shimmery and not too bright. It's quite dusky aswell which I like. Never before would I have spent £13 on an eyeshadow!

L'Oreal Touche Magique | I bought this after seeing lots of reviews about it comparing it to YSL's Touche Eclat. I really like it althought the applicator is a bit strange (the product comes out of the brush when you twist it). I found one recently in Tesco's for £3 so I've been using it for a while now. My mum recently gave me the Touche Eclat after not getting along with it herself. So at least I can compare them myself now!

Rimmel Glam Eyes Liquid Eyeliner in Black Glamour | I was desperate for an eyeliner and bought this in a hurry without seeing what it was. It has a brush applicator which I don't really like and doesn't really stay put all day. Next time I'm going to try and buy one that's more permanent.

Rimmel Eyebrow Pencil in Dark Brown | Haven't really got much to say about this, does the job and I usually buy the same one!

Brushes | These are really cheap brushes from Accessorize and Boots. I don't really like them. I want to buy some from Sigma when I have some money!

Mac Studio Fix Fluid in NC15 | I am totally in love with this, I love putting it on everyday and making my skin look good! However I am used to buying £8 foundations so I'm not the best critic of it. Next time I'm going to try another one around £20, maybe Estee Lauder Double Wear or Chanel Pro Lumiere. I now realise the importance of buying a good foundation!

Benefit High Beam | I loveee this stuff! It looks so nice and creamy and radiant and as my friend describes it 'it makes your skin look expensive'. I'm going to buy my mum some for her Birthday. I think everyone needs some of this in their makeup bag!

Bourjois Rouge Connection in Modele No 4 | I got this ages ago as a present. I hardly ever wear anything on my lips except lip balm. I don't know what it is but I hate the feeling of having makeup on my lips, lipstick or lipgloss! If I do wear lipstick it's always this though. It's so nice and silky and shimmery. It looks really natural too but gives a nice healthy shimmer.

So, that's my makeup bag. I am totally open to suggestions for bronzers, blushers, primers and brushes if anyone has any favourites! I'm on the lookout for some good ones. I don't really know how I ended up listing all of this and how it's ended up being such a long post. I hope it wasn't too boring seeing as I don't know anything about makeup!

Please let me know if you have any favourite products :)

  1. I love High Beam, I've had mine for years and it's still going. I actually recommend 17's photo flawless primer. It's only about a fiver but really is as good more expensive versions!

  2. I know how you feel! I was never really into make-up before I started working at Boots and blogging especially. Now I spend way too much!
You've made me want to try a MAC foundation now, as you look lovely in your pictures :)
